Exciting prospect Lavross booked a Canberra Cup start next month with a crushing Doomben victory on Saturday.
Lavross, heavily backed to start 5/2-on favourite, was never better than three wide, but still scored by 1-lengths from Another Buck (12/1) in the Black And White Cabs Handicap (1615m).
Veteran Grand Republic (80/1) was only a nose away in third place.
Trainer Bev Laming believes Lavross is a Group One winner in the making and will head south on Wednesday week by road for the $100,000 Canberra Cup (2000m) on October 12.
Joining Lavross on the trip south will be dual Brisbane Cup winner Desert Chill, Private Stu and recent Ipswich winner Silver Roman.
Laming is giving serious consideration to also running Desert Chill in the Canberra Cup depending on the weight he receives.
"Private Stu will be going on to Melbourne with Desert Chill, while Silver Roman is six months off being a really good horse," Laming said.
Laming confirmed winning jockey Michael Cahill would retain the Canberra Cup mount on Lavross if he meets weight requirements.
Cahill refused to panic on the Integra four-year-old when he was trapped three deep from the outset.
