Great Rain Shield, Guv

An Australian company is likely to win a contract to supply Britain's famous London cabs with weathershields - to keep cabbies dry on rainy days. And there are plenty of those

in London.

After the familiar black cabs came under the scrutiny of European legislators, London Taxis International decided to develop a new cab - the TX1 - because cabbies couldn't open their windows on rainy days without getting wet.

The Brisbane-based manufacturer of thermoformed automotive accessories, EGR, has modified a couple of its existing products and created a custom-made rain/wind deflector especially to suit London's black cabs.

The sample deflector is now with the Metropolitan Police - Public Carriage Office, which is expected soon to approve its use in London.
